The Florida Retail Federation in Tallahassee Florida, ruled along with its prominent counterparts Publix and Walt Disney, on suing the city of Miami Beach for allegedly raising their minimum wage to $13.31 an hour. According to the Miami Herald, The Florida Retail Federation in which Publix and Walt Disney are both affiliated with, filled the tendentious law suit arguing that Miami Beach's ordinance contradicts state law that preempts local governments from setting their own minimum wages. Other statewide trade associations like the Florida Restaurant Lodging Association and the Florida Chamber of Commerce, all filed the same lawsuit in defense of not wanting to pay workers a higher wage.
